Seaman with COVID-19 stayed in ambulance for 2 days since gov't facilities full

A 33-year-old seaman who tested positive for COVID-19 stayed in a barangay ambulance in Manila for two days.

The man was brought by Barangay 719 officials to three government facilities but these were full, according to a report by Jamie Santos on GMA News' Saksi.

 

The seaman was asymptomatic and just stayed at the ambulance parked on Pablo Ocampo Street corner Adriatico Street.

The barangay provided him food.  

On Friday night past 9 p.m., the barangay ambulance brought him to Tondo Sports Complex where he was accommodated, according to a report by Manny Vargas on Dobol B sa News TV.

Barangay personnel with him were in full personal protective equipment (PPE).

The ambulance driver however said his PPE suit had a tear in the back.

The seaman, who had gone abroad six times for work, thanked the media, the Manila City Government and the barangay for their assistance. 

The Philippines has recorded 63,001 COVID-19 cases as of Friday, the Department of Health said.

Of this number, 21,748 recovered while 1,660 have died.

In Manila, as of Friday, the total COVID-19 cases reached 3,714. The active cases numbered 1,376. Total recoveries were at 2,145 while the death toll was at 193.
