Water consumer billed P120K, asked to submit promissory note

A customer of Manila Water in Taytay, Rizal who was billed P120,000 amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic was asked to sign a promissory note after expressing his concern.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras,” the water bill of Peter Legaspi only reached P200 to P300 every month with P1,000 being the highest during the summer.

However, to Legaspi’s surprise, the water bill of his father’s house reached more than P120,000 for the months of April, May, and June.

“Natawa ako nung una kasi akala ko joke, eh, nung sinabi nung meter reader,” Legaspi said, adding that he thought Manila Water had read or printed it wrong as only one individual lived in the house.

However, upon going to Manila Water to complain, the meter reader stood pat on the numbers in the printed bill.

“Nung bumalik ang sinabi lang ng meter reader, natignan na po namin ‘yan, tama po ‘yung reading. So, mukha naman po bago ‘yung metro niyo, baka walang sira. Gusto niyo pumirma na lang po kayo ng promissory note para mabayaran niyo na lang po ng staggered,” Legaspi said.

“Pero to think na from P1,000 bill na aabot ng P120,000, I think it’s absurd,” he added.

Manila Water said it will check Legaspi's water meter.
