Bus hits concrete barriers on EDSA

A bus was caught on a dash cam video hitting concrete barriers along EDSA on Monday morning.

In a video uploaded by Koji Tibay, who was in another vehicle, the bus was in the bus way when it hit the barriers, which tumbled across EDSA to the outer lane.

“May narinig na lang ako na malakas na sumabog, bumangga then parang sa isang iglap lang nandoon na sa kaliwang side namin ‘yong bus at dalawang concrete barrier na lumilipad papunta sa amin eh,” Tibay said in Ivan Mayrina’s report on “24 Oras.”

The bus was identified as an MSJ Tours bus, driven by Jelvin Mamac.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has already made a report on the incident.

Earlier, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said they had forwarded the report to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran, and the LTFRB for issuance of a show cause order.

“Nakikipag-coordinate din po tayo sa uploader kung ano po ‘yong damages, kung mayroon po bang damages sa kaniyang sasakyan dahil nakita natin huminto siya. ‘Yong video, ‘yon lang po ‘yong mayroon kami so sana ho ‘yong mga drivers ‘wag naman ho ganiyan,” Pialago said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

Meanwhile, aside from being fined P1,700 for reckless driving and for violating the speed limit, Mamac may also pay up to P5,000 for the barriers he damaged.

The bus company could also be suspended, depending on the investigation of the LTO and LTFRB.

“Based on the viral video that we saw, talagang reckless driver. Ang bilis ng takbo niya and there’s no reason to do that,” said Roberto Valera, deputy director, LTO Law Enforcement Service.

This is the third bus incident in the past nine days, the MMDA said.

On Friday, the LTFRB issued an order directing Joanna Jesh Transport to explain after one of its units was caught on video speeding on the EDSA bus way.

On Saturday, the LTO also issued a show cause order to a Roval Transport bus driver who was recorded on video speeding through the EDSA bus way and damaging concrete barriers and vehicles. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM/AOL, GMA News
