BI extends main building's temporary closure to Thursday

The Bureau of Immigration's headquarters in Intramuros, Manila will remain closed until Thursday to give way to COVID-19 rapid tests for all its employees.

Initially set to last from Monday to Tuesday, the temporary shutdown will be extended because only about half of the nearly 700 employees in the bureau's main office had been tested in the first two days of the week, the BI said Wednesday.

The BI earlier said three of its employees had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the temporary suspension of operations at the main building.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said their general services section has also requested for time to complete the disinfection of the building and its premises.

While the main building is closed, the public may transact their business at the BI's satellite and extension offices in Metro Manila, Morente said.

Those who had set appointments online may check their new schedule by contacting the bureau, he said.—AOL, GMA News
