NCRPO coordinating with court for Ecleo's custody —Sinas

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is coordinating with the court regarding the custody of former lawmaker Ruben Ecleo Jr. who was arrested on Thursday.

"Our legal officers are now coordinating with the courts kung saan po siya itu-turnover,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas said at a press briefing.

"Hindi naman po siya puwedeng magtagal sa Camp Bicutan kasi temporary lang po 'yung detention namin doon," he added.

During the arrest, Ecleo also surrendered some firearms, including his M16 rifle and three short firearms, Sinas said.

"Kung mapansin niyo, isa sa inamin po ni Mr. Ecleo Jr. na siya ay gun enthusiast and member siya dati ng gun club kaya mapansin ninyo, magaganda po ang mga baril niya. Pang-shooter po," Sinas said.

Ecleo, who was the subject of an arrest warrant for graft issued by the Sandiganbayan First Division, was nabbed by police in San Fernando, Pampanga.

He was convicted for the murder of his wife, Alona Bacolod-Ecleo, in April 2012. Ecleo, the leader of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, was meted a life sentence or reclusion perpetua by a Cebu court and ordered to pay P25 million in damages to the family of his late wife.

Ecleo's driver, Benjie Fernan Relacion, was also arrested for alleged violation of Presidential Decree 1829 or Penalizing Obstruction of Apprehension and Prosecution of Criminal Offenders.—AOL, GMA News
