Killing of PCSO official could be work-related —police

The killing of the board secretary of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) could be work-related, police said on Friday.

"Posibleng personal at work-related na motibo kasi po ang atin pong biktima ay isa pong board secretary po ng PCSO eh may mga kontrata o posibleng mga nago-operate po ng gambling operation na di napagbigyan... posible pong dahilan kaya nangyari po 'yung insidente," Mandaluyong police chief Police Colonel Hector Grijaldo said in a radio interview.

Victim Wesley Barayuga was shot dead at the corner of Calbayog and Malinaw streets by  motorcycle-riding suspects on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities earlier said the suspects went beside Barayuga's vehicle and shot him through the passenger side.

Grijaldo said police are now looking at the CCTV footage to help identify the perpetrators of the crime. They are also checking the vehicle used by the suspects.

"Mayroon na po tayong nagawang pagkilala doon sa mga suspects base po doon sa nakuha nating CCTV," Grijaldo said.

Based on the footage, Grijaldo said it seems that the suspects were hired killers and that the crime was well-planned.

Meanwhile, Grijaldo also said authorities are checking the background of the victim amid speculations that the victim, reportedly a former policeman, was involved in the illegal drug trade.

"Hindi pa ho natin matukoy kasi wala pa tayo ng sapat na makapagbigay ng impormasyon," Grijaldo said.

The victim’s driver was likewise shot. He was brought to a hospital for treatment. —KBK, GMA News
