On eve of NCR-wide MECQ, LSIs camp out outside Rizal Memorial Stadium

On the last day before Metro Manila is placed under a 15-day modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), over a dozen locally stranded individuals (LSIs) flocked to Rizal Memorial Stadium hoping to get a last-minute ride to their home provinces.

A tweet by Super Radyo dzBB's Isa Avendaño-Umali on Monday showed at least 20 LSIs camping outside Rizal Memorial Stadium, which in the past days had housed thousands of LSIs who were brought to the provinces by batches.

As public transportation is not allowed under MECQ, it would be difficult, if not impossible, for the LSIs to go home to their provinces.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday night announced that Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal will be under MECQ from August 4 to 18.

Medical frontliners had asked for Metro Manila to return to an ECQ for two weeks to give them time to rest and "re-calibrate strategies" against the disease. —KBK, GMA News
