Manila to start distribution of tablets, laptops to students, teachers next week

The Manila city government is set to start next week the distribution of tablets and laptops to public school teachers and students to be used for blended distance learning.

In a Facebook post, the Manila Public Information Office said pocket wifi device will also be given to teachers while sim card with 10GB data allocation will be handed to students.

This was after Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso and Cherry chief executive officer Maynard Ngu signed a memorandum of agreement on Monday, August 17.

In June, the city government earmarked P994 million for the purchase of tablets, laptops, and internet connection for students and teachers.

Moreno said then that each of the 10,000 teachers in Manila will receive a laptop and a pocket Wi-Fi unit also good for 10 GB a month.

He said there are safeguards to ensure that the tablet, laptop, and internet connection will be strictly used for schooling.

“Particular websites will be blocked, iyong connection po ay dedicated sa Google, classroom requirements at curriculum ng Department of Education. Kaya iyong nangangambang mga magulang, huwag po kayo mag-alala,” Moreno said.—AOL, GMA News
