DOTr mulls imposing toll on EDSA

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is exploring the possibility of charging motorists passing EDSA in hopes of solving the perennial traffic problem there, according to Bam Alegre's report on Unang Balita on Friday.

Citing DOTr consultant Alberto Suansing, the report said the proposed measure, which would use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, also seeks to generate additional revenue to the government.

There will only be one rate for EDSA, which passes through several Metro Manila cities.

The report said based on Suansing's assessment, the measure will not need the approval of Congress but only of Metro Manila mayors.

The government is reportedly eyeing to implement the measure in 2021. —KBK, GMA News
