Palace on proposal to impose toll on EDSA: Not under Duterte’s watch

Malacañang on Monday said the Duterte administration is not seeking to impose a toll on motorists plying EDSA, one of Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares.

“Wala pong ganoong initiatives sa pamahalaan ni Presidente [Rodrigo] Duterte. Kung mayroon man, sa ibang presidente po iyon,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.

Roque’s reaction came three days after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) also denied pushing for the construction of a toll road along EDSA

The DOTr said it was open to suggestions to improve mobility and order of public transportation.

“However, a suggestion does not translate automatically into a proposal nor a project for implementation. Like any project, it has to go through the proper process," the department said in a statement last Friday. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
