Gov’t studying resumption of provincial bus operations in NCR — DILG exec

The government’s COVID-19 task force is studying the possibility of allowing the resumption of provincial bus operations in Metro Manila, which is currently under general community quarantine (GCQ).

In a televised briefing on Wednesday, Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has yet to decide on the matter.

“Wala pa pong pinal na desisyon dahil nga po lumalabas nga po sa pag-aaral sa iba’t ibang bansa na transportation is one of the fastest ways to spread COVID-19,” he said.

“Antabayanan na lang po natin kung magkakadesisyon na ang IATF.”

The government has so far allowed the operation of trains, jeepneys, taxis, transport network vehicle services, UV express units, tricycles, shuttle services, point-to-point buses, and augmentation buses in the National Capital Region though on a limited capacity.

The GCQ in Metro Manila will be implemented until September 30. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
