The driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident that killed nurse Renz Jayson Perez last August 23 has surrendered, Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno announced Thursday.

In a Facebook live, Moreno identified the suspect as Mohammad Ali Sulayman.

Sulayman expressed apology to the family and loved ones of Perez, saying that at first, he was afraid to come out to authorities.

Earlier, the Manila Police District identified the owner of the vehicle as one Saudah Bacaye.

Police earlier said Bacaye had claimed that their vehicle was borrowed for two weeks and that they did not know that it got involved in an accident last month.

MPD chief Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda told GMA News Online that the suspect would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

Sulayman will be first brought to the city's traffic management office, Miranda said.

Meanwhile, the owner of the vehicle also has civil liability, Miranda added. --AOL/KBK, GMA News
