Metro Manila mayors agree to close NCR cemeteries for Undas 2020

Metro Manila mayors have agreed to close all cemeteries in the capital region for Undas 2020 in a bid to prevent mass gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic, Metro Manila Development Authority spokesperson Celine Pialago confirmed on Sunday.

According to a “24 Oras Weekend” report, the Metro Manila Council will release uniform guidelines on the closure of cemeteries.

The guidelines will include instructions on the rerouting of vehicles.

The local governments of Manila, San Juan, and Mandaluyong earlier announced the closure of cemeteries within their locality for this year’s All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

Meanwhile, flower vendors in Dangwa expressed disappointment at the closure of cemeteries.

“Lahat nadismaya. Siyempre maapektuhan ‘yung aming mga negosyo,” Rosalie Magtahas said.

Other flower vendors have switched to online selling amid the pandemic.

“Malaking tulong po ‘yung online selling sa’min. Puwede naman po na itawag na lang sa’min ‘yung mga kailangan tapos pipick-up-in po ng mga rider, ganiyan. Mas safe pa sila,” Analiza Tabalisma said.

Divisoria candle vendors also advised customers to buy ahead of time due to low stocks. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
