Flower sales in Dangwa drop amid COVID-19 pandemic

Sales of flowers in Dangwa have dropped with fewer people buying amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Darlene Cay’s report on “Unang Balita” on Tuesday, several flower vendors lamented their low sales amid the high price of flowers from their suppliers.

The vendors expect sales to go even lower as all cemeteries in Metro Manila will be closed

from October 29 to November 4 to prevent the further spread of the virus during the observance of All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days.

“Ewan lang namin kung ano gagawin namin. Ganito, nakaupo lang kami nag-aabang ng buyer, mga bibili,” Rosie Reola said, noting that it was the first time in her 50 years in the flower business that their sales got so low.

Meanwhile, some flower vendors went online to boost sales as e-commerce trends amid the pandemic.

“Nag-oorder sila ng bouquet through online ‘yon ‘yong parang isa namin na medyo malakas,” Fely Galvan said.

The vendors said they understand the need to close cemeteries as this will help in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, who chairs the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said police  personnel, marshals, and barangay officers will be present in the cemeteries to monitor the situation and enforce health protocols.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/AOL, GMA News
