Couple in QC nabbed for holding illegal online bingo

Police operatives of the Philippine National Police—Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) has arrested a couple for conducting illegal bingo operations on Facebook.

According to Jonathan Andal’s report on “24 Oras Weekend,” the PNP-ACG caught April Vanessa Grace Villanueva Magan, the operator of the Facebook group "Ate Girl’s Online Pabingo," in the act on Thursday night.

Her husband, Anthony Torres, was also arrested.

The PNP-ACG stormed the couple’s house at Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City with a search warrant based on the complaint of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

Police authorities said the suspect sold every bingo card for P20, while the cash prize reached up to P100,000.

According to authorities, Magan has around 75,000 followers online, some of which she eventually hired as her personnel. They are also being tracked down by authorities.

“’Yung pagkaka-aaresto ni Ate Girl Bingo will serve as a warning to others. So ‘wag na nila tangkilikin pa, ‘yung mga followers ‘wag na nila tangkilikin ‘yung mga illegal online gambling activity," Police Colonel Ramon Roque Gamboa, PNP-ACG Cyber Response Unit chief, said.

The suspect declined to give a comment. “Hindi po, hindi po kami mag sasalita po,” she said.

Both will face charges for illegal gambling in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act. -Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
