MPD chief raises possibility of inside job in robbery incident that killed cop

Authorities are not discounting the possibility that the robbery incident in Manila, which killed a policeman over the weekend, was a case of inside job.

"Mayroon silang point man siguro. Hindi rin natin maalis 'yung possibility ng inside job..." Manila Police District (MPD) chief Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

"Mayroon silang spotter or mayroon silang kasabwat na nandoon sa area," he added.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Roel Candido was killed by suspects who had allegedly blocked and robbed those onboard a vehicle with more or less P2 million worth of cash and jewelry in Sta. Cruz, Manila last Saturday.

Earlier reports said Candido was also traversing Florentino Torres Street when he noticed the incident. He was about to respond with his firearm but the suspects shot him.

The suspects, who were wearing the field service uniform of the Philippine National Police, were able to escape.

Miranda has said the incident was well-planned by the suspects.

He reiterated that there were four suspects in the incident. He said the MPD has been receiving information about the suspects but it is still being verified.

"So far ang ating mga suspect ay apat, tatlong gunmen plus 'yung kanilang driver," Miranda said.

"May mga information na kaming nare-receive from the public, tinetext sa amin na possible suspect but still we have to verify it. Mahirap naman na basta basta tayong maniniwala doon sa text messages," he added.

The MPD chief alleged that the group involved in the incident was also linked to other robbery incidents in the cities of Pasay and Mandaluyong.

Miranda previously said three groups have been created to probe the case, including those who are talking to witnesses, checking the CCTV footage, and backtracking the incident.

Three other victims were also injured in the incident. Miranda said they are already in stable condition.

"We are just awaiting for the advice of the physician kung puwede na namin silang makuhanan ng statement," Miranda said.—AOL, GMA News
