Grab to provide bail assistance to female driver arrested in Taguig

Grab Philippines on Thursday vowed to extend assistance to one of its drivers who was arrested after asking a cop to move his car that was supposedly blocking a pick-up area in a commercial establishment in Taguig City on Tuesday evening.

One Florence Norial, 26, was arrested for allegedly assaulting Police Captain Ronald Saquilayan but insisted that she had acted on self-defense as the cop initially pushed her.

"We have received reports regarding one of our driver-partners who was detained after allegedly disrespecting a police officer. The safety and welfare of our driver-partners remain top priority for us at Grab," Grab said in a statement.

"We are currently coordinating with the family of our driver-partner, and we will provide bail assistance for her immediate release," it added.

According to Norial's boyfriend, Mirza Miguel Shahzad, Saquilayan just ignored  the female driver when she used her vehicle's headlights and horn so she could pass through the driveway.

Norial's vehicle was behind Saquilayan's Ford Ranger.

The Taguig police claimed that Norial was unruly and that she even attempted to resist arrest.

Norial is still detained while waiting for the resolution of the complaint filed against her.

The National Capital Region Police Office said the incident is already being checked. — RSJ, GMA News
