Mayor Isko signs ordinance banning daytime videoke in Manila

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno on Thursday signed an ordinance regulating the use of videoke machines and other sound-producing devices that could disturb students in their online learning.

Under City Ordinance No. 8688, the use of karaoke machines and other devices are banned from Monday to Saturday in the entire city from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Moreno said there were complaints from parents that online classes have been disturbed due to the videoke sessions.

All barangays officials and police officers are tasked to implement the said ordinance.

Moreno said violators of the said ordinance could be fined P1,000 for the first offense; P2,000 for the second offense; and P3,000 for the third and succeeding offense.

Manila's ordinance came a day after the Department of the Interior and Local Government had urged localities to enact ordinances that will ban noisy activities amid the online learning scheme. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
