Marikina residents use basin, tire tube to transport 10-month-old baby to safety

Residents of Barangay Concepcion Uno in Marikina City used a basin and a tire tube to transport a 10-month-old baby to safety amid the floods caused by Typhoon Ulysses.

As seen in the video taken by Chino Gaston, three people slowly waded through chest-deep water while holding an umbrella over the basin to keep the baby from getting wet.

Three others met them on higher ground with ankle-deep flood to fetch the baby.

On Thursday, the Marikina River reached the water level dumped by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.

City mayor Marcy Teodoro admitted that authorities were overwhelmed by the situation, as evacuation centers have become packed even as residents in several areas awaited rescue with floods reaching the second floor of houses.
