Search ongoing for man caught on video being swept away in Marikina River —mayor

The search continues for the man caught on camera being swept away by the strong currents of Marikina River on Thursday during Typhoon Ulysses' onslaught.

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro said it's unlikely that the unidentified man was a resident of Marikina since no one was reported missing in the city due to Ulysses.

"Kaya ang iniisip natin, 'yung lalaking nakita kahapon ay maaaring nanggaling sa mataas na bahagi ng Marikina River," Teodoro said in an Unang Balita interview on Friday.

"Maaaring galing sa Quezon City, San Mateo o Montalban (Rodriguez)."

Nevertheless, Teodoro said they are in coordination with officials from nearby cities in order to locate the man.

"Patuloy nating hinahanap at tayo's nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga karatig nating bayan para sa lalaking ito," he said.

The man was spotted Thursday by a GMA News crew filming the rushing body of water, which at the time had already swollen more than it did during 2009's deadly Ondoy.

The man suddenly emerged from the muddy brown water asking for help.

Teodoro said as of Friday morning, water level at Marikina River has returned to normal level. --KBK, GMA News
