Teodoro links ex-Marikina mayor Bayani to river reclamation that contributed to flooding

Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the private reclamation project in Marikina River contributed to the widespread flooding in the city during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

According to Maki Pulido’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the reclamation project upriver was linked to Marikina City Representative Bayani Fernando.

“‘Yong corporation, BF City, sa kaniya (Fernando) ito. Kinausap naman na namin siya at sinabing kailangan tanggalin ‘yong reclamation. Kung kailangang kami ang magtanggal, gagawin ko ‘yon at ‘yon na ang aking instruction,” Teodoro said.

Teodoro said the city government has been against the project ever since.

He said the city government also did not issue a permit for such a project, which was on the other side of Provident Village.

Moreover, Teodoro said he also issued the Department of Public Works and Highways a notice of violation as he saw one of its trucks on the reclamation site.

“Pinahuli ko ‘yong truck na ‘yon eh. It turned out na truck ng DPWH ‘yong nag-da-dump,  upon instruction ni congressman,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DPWH said it is not involved in the said project.

Fernando denied to comment on the matter.
