Cop in Tondo shooting incident faces murder, frustrated homicide raps


Authorities filed murder and frustrated homicide charges on Saturday against a policeman who shot two men, killing one and injuring another last Friday  in Tondo, Manila.

In a message to GMA News Online, Manila Police District Homicide Division chief Police Captain Henry Navarro said suspect Patrolman Alvin Santos had already undergone inquest proceedings.

Santos surrendered to Navarro's office at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 20, the same day shot victims Joseph Marga and a certain Mark Lester Quiñones in Barangay 106.

Marga was died and Quiñones was hurt.

Earlier reports said the cop was drunk when the incident happened.

Marga had a heated argument with the cop after the latter refused to remove his motorcycle that was parked in front of the victim's house, Navarro said.

Police recovered the policeman's 9MM berreta, a magazine loaded with 12 ammunition and two empty cartridges at the crime scene.

A video posted online by one of the victims' relatives showed residents panicking and wailing after the shooting incident.

Afterwards, one of the victims was seen covered in blood as his relatives tried to rush him to a hospital. —LBG, GMA News
