Some fitness buffs disregard health protocols in CCP Complex, Baywalk

Some fitness buffs who went to Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex in Pasay City and the Baywalk in Manila on Sunday morning were observed disregarding health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A number of them who went to CCP Complex to walk or bike did not wear face masks and were in groups, not following physical distancing, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Dobol B sa News TV.

Almost no one wore a face shield since it would fog when one breathes heavily during exercise.

Security personnel of the CCP Complex were seen going around aboard a pedicab reminding people to observe physical distancing and wear face masks.

Meanwhile, at the Baywalk by Manila Bay, members of the Manila Police District Station 9 went around reminding people to observe minimum health standards and protocols such as wearing face masks, according to a report by Manny Vargas on Dobol B sa News TV.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 416,852 on Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Of this number, 375,548 recovered while 8,080 died.

The DOH has repeatedly reminded the public that experts recommend wearing masks as protection against COVID-19.

President Rodrigo Duterte has earlier called on the police to arrest and subsequently detain those who will not wear a face mask amid the COVID-19 pandemic. —KG, GMA News
