Motorists get stuck for hours at NAIA Expressway to get RFID

Several motorists who lined up to get an RFID sticker on Tuesday complained about the lack of system in handling the hundreds of customers at the NAIA Expressway.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras,” the long queue caused drivers to lose patience.

“Wala naman po talagang sistema. Dapat kanina pa sila nagbigay ng papel diyan para kung ano dumating na ‘yung sticker, di ba naka-fill up na,” Dennis Kreisher, a driver, said.

“Hindi mamayang pagdating doon ‘tsaka lang magbibigay ng papel, tapos magsasabi sila na may cut-off pa. Papaano naman po ‘yun?” he added.

Another driver lamented not being able to attend to his other activities for the day due to the long line.

“Nasayang na po ‘yung mga oras namin. Tsaka ‘yung may mga lakad pa  kami hindi namin napuntahan,” Oliver Badillo said.

Meanwhile, senior citizen Philip Zabala said went to different installation stations just to get an RFID sticker.

“Hirap na hirap na ho kami, wala ho kaming trabaho. Sana marami silang option na ibinibigay na ano, na paraan. Hindi ‘yung, biruin niyo ‘yung pila niyan ang haba-haba,” Zabala said.

There are also stickering sites around SLEX. In one gasoline station, there is a cut-off of 100 for walk-in customers while others earlier made online appointments.

From the STAR Tollway, there is also stickering at the side of SLEX.

The San Miguel Corporation, which operates SLEX, NAIA Expressway, STAR toll, and TPLEX, said that those without RFID stickers should not worry as one to three lanes per toll plaza still accept cash.

There is also an on-the-spot RFID stickering on some lanes.

The transition period for those without RFID stickers are from Tuesday, December 1  to Monday, January 11.

However, starting from Tuesday, January 12, those without RFID stickers who will enter non-stickering lanes will be made to pay a fine of up to P2,000. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
