QC to roll out bus augmentation program Monday

The Quezon City government over the weekend announced updated routes for its Bus Augmentation Program which is set to be rolled out on Monday, December 7, 2020.

In a statement on Sunday, the local government said there will be eight routes:

Under a memorandum of agreement with the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), a provisional authority will be granted for public utility buses to ply through select routes to provide additional transportation to commuters.

The program will initially be open to the public during its initial run, but passengers will eventually be required to present the soon-to-be-released QCitizen ID Card.

"We also expect the program to reduce the number of private cars as motorists might opt to take our bus en route to their destination," said city administrator Michael Alimurung.

To recall, public transportation reopened on June 1, albeit on a limited basis, capped at 30% of capacity prior to the quarantines. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
