LRT1 Christmas train sports a 'pandemic' look

The Light Rail Manila Corporation on Monday unveiled its Christmas train at the Light Rail Transit-Line 1 (LRT1) and this year it sports a "pandemic" look.

Every year, LRMC dresses up a train of the LRT1 for Christmas to spread holiday cheer.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the company this year put a "face shield" and "face mask" on the front of a train for a "Christmask" theme.

The side of the train on the other hand shows an illustration of frontliners, all wearing face masks and face shields, to honor their service.

The "Christmask" train also carries the "Ingat Angat Tayong Lahat" campaign logo of the Taskforce T3 (Test, Trace, Treat) and serves to remind commuters to observe health protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company also gave passengers at the Baclaran Station some safety kits during the launch of the "Christmask" train.

“The COVID-19 pandemic hit the country hard, and we know that this year’s Christmas celebration is going to be very different from what we’ve all been used to.  But even COVID cannot take away Christmas season and its meaning to all of us," LRMC president and CEO Juan Alfonso said.

"We encourage everyone to celebrate safely, and may this season be more memorable to all of us in this challenging time. We want to express gratitude to all the frontliners in our lives, as well as uplift the spirit of the public through this unique execution,” he added.

“We also hope to reinforce the commuting public’s sense of safety by showing how LRMC continues to ensure that they always come home safely by riding the LRT-1. One way we do that is by constantly reminding people to wear masks and face shields properly on top of our existing best in class safety measures," Alfonso said.

The Philippines has registered 439,834 COVID-19 cases as of Sunday. Of this number, 408,634 recovered while 8,554 died.
