Over 20 arrested at Manila North Cemetery baptism reception

Over 20 attendees of a baptism reception were nabbed by authorities at the Manila North Cemetery on Saturday for holding a mass gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Jonathan Andal’s “24 Oras Weekend” report, police rushed to the venue after being tipped off on the event.

What they found were groups of people singing karaoke and huddled together on tables, many of them not wearing masks.

A few children were also at the reception.

“Pagdating natin do’n ay nakita natin ang mga ito na nag-iinuman. Higit 20,” Manila Police District Station 3 commander Police Lieutenant Colonel John Guiagui said.

The parents of the child who was baptized were among those arrested.

A guest admitted knowing that mass gatherings were banned amid the pandemic.

The attendees were brought to a covered court.

“Kung nagkahalo-halo ito, hindi na natin alam, baka may carrier diyan. Maging babala po ito sa inyong lahat, ‘wag na po tayong gumaya sa mga ito,” Guiagui said. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
