Quiapo Church preaches ‘4Ps’ instead of Traslacion activities

The Quiapo Church on Friday proposed the "4Ps" or the pagsimba, pagpupugay, paghanay, and pagdalaw instead of Traslacion activities to avoid overcrowding amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras,” for pagsimba, various churches such as the Santa Cruz Church and the San Sebastian Church will hold simultaneous masses to control the volume of people.

LED screens will also be stationed in designated areas of worship or places of convergence for devotees outside the Quiapo church. The mass may also be streamed online.

For pagpupugay, instead of kissing and wiping the image of the Black Nazarene with a handkerchief, the image may only be viewed from afar.

Meanwhile, instead of carrying the cross, the public is advised to follow health protocols for paghanay.

For pagdalaw, the image of the Black Nazarene will instead visit various churches in Metro Manila, Northern Luzon, and Southern Luzon.

“Nananawagan po kami ng tulong sa lahat ng simbahan sa buong Pilipinas na kung puwede po ay i-gather, hikayatin ‘yung mga deboto na diyan na lang po sa inyong mga simbahan magcelebrate ng Traslacion,” Rev. Fr. Douglas Badong, the parochial vicar, said.

“Maiintindihan naman po ng Nazareno kung hindi kayo makakapunta dito sa Quiapo sa January 9,” he added.

No one is also allowed to join the pilgrimage once the Black Nazarene leaves one church to go to the next one.

Before the pandemic, 10,000 devotees were allowed to enter the Quiapo Church. However, to implement protocols, only 2,000 devotees will be allowed inside and outside the church.

As the mass will start at 4 a.m., the church will allow people to start entering at midnight.

Twelve novena masses will be held each day. After every mass, 30 minutes will be allocated for disinfection procedures.

Police will also ensure social distancing in all areas. Only one entry and one exit will be allocated for each area of worship. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
