2 young sisters killed in QC fire —BFP

Two people have been confirmed killed in a fire that broke out on Friday morning in Quezon City, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Quoting BFP officials, GMA News’ James Agustin reported on “Unang Balita” that the fatalities were a 20-year-old woman, and her 10-year-old sister.

An initial investigation by the city’s BFP officials showed that the fire of still undetermined origin broke out at a house along Matahimik Street in Barangay Malaya before 6 a.m.

According to the BFP, the fire that only reached the first alarm lasted for about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the brother of the victims said his sisters were sleeping on the mezzanine, while he and their father were sleeping downstairs when the fire broke out.

He said he tried to save his trapped sisters after leading their father to safely outside the house.

But he said smoke upstairs had grown so thick at the time, and he failed to save his siblings.

According to the report, there were four occupants in the house –father, son, and two girls.

Fire officials said the fire started at the stairway, and they are still determining the its cause.  —LBG, GMA News
