Valenzuela closes deal for 640,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses

The Valenzuela City government signed a deal with British-Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca for 640,000 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine doses, Mayor Rex Gatchalian announced Sunday.

“With the AstraZeneca vaccines, 320,000 individuals will be vaccinated, which is 70% of the target population of the city (18 years old below are excluded),” he said in a Facebook post.

Gatchalian added that the vaccines were to arrive in the second half of 2021.

“Valenzuela City will be one of the first city governments to roll out the said vaccines,” Gatchalian added.

The mayor earlier said that Valenzuela allotted P150 million for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines for residents.

Several other local governments earmarked millions of pesos for the purchase of vaccines through a tripartite agreement. — DVM, GMA News
