53 riders given tickets for using nutshell helmets —I-ACT

Authorities have issued tickets to 53 motorcycle riders for using substandard nutshell helmets, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said on Thursday.

IACT conducted traffic enforcement and management operations on Wednesday along Cayetano Avenue, Barangay Ususan in Taguig City, where the violating riders were apprehended.

“Most of the motorists who have been halted during this operation have been caught using substandard helmets, or ‘nutshell helmets’,” I-ACT told GMA News Online.

The use of nutshell helmets is a violation to Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

During the operations, a rider was also apprehended for not wearing a helmet, which hung from his arm.

A jeepney vehicle was also impounded as its driver had been operating without any registered QR Code permit, according to I-ACT.

“With violations such as the ones mentioned above, the Council maintains its stringent alertness to keep on the lookout for motorists who violate other traffic policies and public transportation health protocols,” it said.

“ The I-ACT strongly upholds its steadfast enforcement of road worthiness measures, RA 4136, otherwise known as "Land Transportation Code", and the 7 Commandments of Public Transportation by the Department of Transportation (DOTr),” it added.

A total of 62 violations and five impounded vehicles were recorded after the operations, I-ACT said. — BM, GMA News
