Police to file additional evidence in Christine Dacera case on Jan. 27

Police are set to file additional pieces of evidence on Wednesday, January 27, regarding the case of flight attendant Christine Dacera, who was found unconscious in a hotel room in Makati City on New Year's Day.

"Tomorrow is 27. We will be submitting all available evidence. Sana lang ma-appreciate ng fiscal for finally filing the information against the suspects. Pero kung wala naman, definitely the case will be dismissed," National Capital Region Police Office chief Major General Vicente Danao Jr. told reporters on Tuesday.

Danao refused to provide details as to the strongest evidence they are holding against those allegedly involved in the death of Dacera.

"We will reserve it na lang muna," Danao said.

On January 13, the Makati City Prosecutor's Office started its preliminary probe into the criminal complaint against the men who were linked to Dacera's death. At least 11 respondents face a complaint for rape with homicide.

Dacera's family has insisted that the flight attendant was raped and drugged before she died, in contrast to what was stated in an initial medical report saying that she died due to ruptured aortic aneurysm.

Danao admitted that the initial pieces of evidence submitted by cops were insufficient to establish that Dacera was raped by her companions.

Police were criticized as three individuals were arrested but later on released as ordered by the Makati City Prosecutor's Office.

The flight attendant's friends have denied that they sexually abused Dacera during their New Year's celebration, noting that they took care of her when they noticed that she was heavily drunk.

Meanwhile, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, former Philippine National Police chief, on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the alleged lapse of the PNP in handling the autopsy on Dacera's body.

Dacera's body was embalmed before it was examined for medico-legal purposes.

Police Brigadier General Marini Marcos Jr., director of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, said the medico legal officer who conducted the embalming has reasoned out that he just followed the new protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic. —KG, GMA News
