An employee of the Metro Rail Transit-3 depot has succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Transportation has confirmed.

The DOTr made the disclosure after it announced that 42 depot personnel had contracted COVID-19.

“It is also with great sadness that we confirm that one of our fellow public servants in the MRT3 Depot who got infected by COVID-19 passed away earlier this week,” the department told GMA News Online.

The DOTr earlier announced that the MRT3 Depot was placed under “enhanced access control” last week after 42 personnel contracted COVID-19.

Of this number, 36 are staff of the MRT3 Depot while six are from Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the railway’s maintenance service provider.

While MRT3 operations are unaffected by the infections, the DOTr reminded passengers to observe minimum public health standards against COVID-19. -NB, GMA News
