Car theft gang leader Raymond Dominguez died due to cardiac arrest —BuCor

Convicted car theft gang leader Raymond Dominguez died due to cardiac arrest, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said, according to a Dobol B sa News TV report on Sunday.

Citing BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag, the report said the cause of Dominguez's death came out after the National Bureau of Investigation conducted an autopsy on his body.

Dominguez was found lifeless

in his cell at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City at 6:20 a.m. Friday.

“It appears that he died of natural causes. But we will wait for the medico-legal report," Chaclag said. “No sign of foul play is noted.”

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra had instructed the BuCor to submit a report on the matter “immediately.”

But Mae Dominguez, Raymond's widow, did not believe that her husband died of natural causes.

She said her husband called her and said goodbye the night before he was found dead in prison, claiming he was expecting his death.

In April 2012, Bulacan Judge Wilfredo Nieves found Dominguez, suspected leader of the Dominguez carjack gang, guilty of carjacking in 2010.

Dominguez also faced charges for other high-profile crimes including the carjack-murder of car dealer Venson Evangelista in 2011. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
