San Juan makes downpayment for 100,000 AstraZeneca doses

The San Juan city government on Tuesday announced that it had made a down payment for its order of 100,000 coronavirus vaccine doses from British-Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca.

“San Juan City already made a down payment yesterday, February 22, 2021, to AstraZeneca, as part of our contractual obligation for the 100,000 doses of vaccines we ordered,” Mayor Francis Zamora said in a statement.

The local government said it cannot disclose further details due to a non-disclosure agreement with the manufacturer and the national government.

The tripartite deal was inked last month.

“While waiting for the vaccines, the city is preparing for their arrival including regular simulation activities to improve the vaccination process,” Zamora said.

A total of 27,065 San Juan residents have so far registered for a COVID-19 vaccine, 3,456 of whom are health workers.

“This is 31.69% of the city's target population of 85,400 residents to achieve herd immunity,” Zamora said.
