MMDA mulls using EDSA bus carousel for fast transport of Sinovac vaccines

By JAMIL SANTOS,GMA News

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday said it is eyeing to use the EDSA bus carousel for a faster delivery of the Sinovac vaccines on Sunday.

"May options tayo. Pwedeng gamitin ang bus carousel, at kung hindi naman ay 'yung katabi ng bus carousel," MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos Jr. said at the Laging Handa briefing.

He said about six 40-foot container vans will be used to transport the 600,000 coronavirus vaccine doses from the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City to a Department of Health (DOH) facility in Marikina.

Abalos said their ground personnel, as well as the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will be present to assist in the transport of the vaccines.

"At hindi lang 'yun, nakahanda rin po ang towing at emergency vehicles kung saka-sakali," Abalos added.

"Kung makikita niyo po itong mga 40-foot container vans na may kasamang mga escort na mga pulis, tayo na ho ang kusang tumabi," Abalos said as he urged motorists to give way to the convoy of the Sinovac vaccines.

President Rodrigo Durterte will personally receive the 600,000 doses of Sinovac's  COVID-19 vaccine, according to Senator Christopher “Bong” Go. —LBG, GMA News
