Vico Sotto under quarantine after driver died from COVID-19

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said Monday that he is under a two-week quarantine after his driver tested positive for COVID-19 and subsequently died from the disease.

Sotto said he already underwent a RT-PCR test over the weekend and cancelled all his meetings and appointments.

“Kasalukuyang ako ay naka-quarantine. Nag-COVID-19 test na ako kahapon bilang ako po ay isang close contact. Strictly susunod tayo sa protocols natin. Hindi muna ako makakapasok sa trabaho at kinacancel ko muna ang appointment o meeting. Kung maaari ay i-Zoom, Viber, text, and phone call muna ang pagtatrabaho,” he said in a Facebook Live.

(I am currently under quarantine. I underwent a COVID-19 test yesterday as I am a close contact. We will strictly follow the health protocols. I will temporarily not go to work and I have cancelled all my appointments or meetings. If possible, I will continue doing my work through Zoom, Viber, text and phone calls.)

In a separate post, Sotto said he expects to receive the result of the swab test Monday afternoon. He added he would continue being under quarantine until March 24 even if he would test negative.

The Pasig Mayor said he last saw his driver on Wednesday before the latter was brought to the hospital. Sotto’s driver died on Saturday.

“Nung nakaraang (Sabado) ay nawalan tayo ng isang matalik na kaibigan dahil sa COVID-19,  siya ‘yung driver ko kaya talagang close contact ako bagama’t sumusunod naman ako sa health protocols (We lost a close friend last [Saturday] due to COVID-19. He is my driver so I am a close contact even if I followed the health protocols),” he said.

“Nakikiramay tayo sa pamilya ni Kuya Vener, sa mga kaibigan.  Wednesday kami huling nagkita bago siya isinugod sa ospital (We expressed our condolences to the family and friends of Kuya Vener. I last saw him on Wednesday before he was rushed to the hospital),” he added.

Sotto said his driver was very kind, reliable, and always smiling.
