Manila has vaccinated about 2,500 health workers so far, says Mayor Isko

About 2,500 medical frontline workers in Manila have received the first shot of vaccine against COVID-19 the since the city government launched its immunization program this month, Mayor Isko Moreno said Wednesday.

In a livestreamed report, Moreno said that 102 frontliners in six hospitals have been diagnosed with the virus since the rollout of the vaccination program. Ten had been administered the first short of the vaccine prior to their diagnosis.

Moreno urged health workers to get inoculated to prevent them from contracting the severe respiratory ailment.

“To summarize, na kapag ikaw ay medical frontliner, at bakunado ka, malaki ang tsansa na hindi ka maimpeksyon. So far yung sampu na iyon ay nasa mabuti naman silang kalagayan at may panlaban sila sa katawan,” he pointed out.

(If you are a medical frontliner, and vaccinated, you have a larger chance of not getting infected. So far, then 10 COVID-positive frontliners who had received the vaccine shot are in good condition.)

Previously, fewer than 1,900 medical workers in the capital city registered to avail the Sinovac vaccines during its roll-out in earlier this month.

To date, Manila has a sum of 31,932 COVID-19 cases, with 2,102 active cases, 28,993 recoveries and 837 deaths.
