Checkpoints in Metro Manila for enforcement of curfew, not travel bubble in NCR Plus —DILG

The checkpoints in Metro Manila are for the enforcement of curfew hours and not for the implementation of travel bubble in the National Capital Region and neighboring provinces, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.

At the Laging Handa briefing on Monday, DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said around 10,000 police personnel were deployed in Metro Manila to man the checkpoints.

“’Yung mga checkpoint pong nilalagay natin sa Metro Manila ay hindi po for the purpose of the travel bubble. ‘Yun po ay for purposes of the curfew restrictions natin,” he said.

Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, the national government placed Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna or the “NCR plus” under a general community quarantine (GCQ) bubble with a new set of regulations

In these areas, the curfew hours were set from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Workers, cargo vehicles, and public transportation are exempted.

The Philippine National Police has established at least 20 "quarantine control points".

On the first day of the GCQ bubble, authorities were screening motorists who were passing the checkpoints.
