Fires hit North Fairview, QC and Pamplona Uno, Las Piñas

Fires broke out before dawn on Monday in North Fairview, Quezon City and Pamplona Uno in Las Piñas City.

In Barangay North Fairview, the fire started past 2 a.m. in a residential area, according to a report by James Agustin on GMA News' Unang Balita.

The fire quickly spread since the houses were made of light materials.

Residents initially went on the rooftops to help put out the fire.

One resident said she heard an explosion, probably from a gas tank.

Fire Chief Inspector Joseph del Mundo, chief of operation of Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City, said firemen had difficulty reaching the affected area due to narrow streets.

The fire reached the second alarm before it was put out at 4:05 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire which affected 36 families and 18 houses.

A resident said her family was only able to save clothes, and was wondering how they would be able to recover amid the pandemic.

Del Mundo said the fire was due to an electrical problem, citing a resident's statement that she saw a spark among the electric wires in their house.

Initial structural damage was estimated to reach P100,000.

Affected residents were advised to temporarily stay at the covered court.

Meanwhile, in Barangay Pamplona Uno in Las Piñas City, the fire started at a junk shop on Burgos Street past 1 a.m., according to a report by Mai Bermudez on Unang Balita.

The junkshop's caretaker said his child woke him up to say that the first floor of the shop was on fire.

He used the fire extinguisher and the fire was initially put out.

However, the fire sparked again among the plastic bottles in the shop, and spread.

The BFP raised the first alarm at 1:30 a.m.

The fire reached the third alarm before fire out was declared at 3:02 a.m.

Fifteen residents in the apartment meanwhile had to go to the topmost floor and exit from there.

No one was hurt in the fire but three families were affected by the incident.

The BFP advised the public to have a fire extinguisher on hand to quickly respond to any fire.

Investigation is ongoing as to the cause of the fire.

The damage was estimated to reach P100,000. —KG, GMA News
