The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday began its anti-COVID-19 vaccination program for its personnel, saying it aims to initially start off on 200 of its workforce.

On its Facebook account, the MMDA said it will prioritize vaccinating medical frontliners, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities with the Sinovac vaccine.

“We shall follow the priority list of the vaccination. Senior citizens and medical frontliners are first to be inoculated,” MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said.

The MMDA has reported 771 confirmed cases, of which 100 are still active while eight have succumbed to the illness. It has a total of 8,000 personnel.

“Medical frontliners, including doctors and nurses, have the highest exposure to COVID 19 and are the most at risk of contracting the disease,” he said.

According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., a total of 865,541 medical frontliners, 57,818 senior citizens, and 129,897 individuals with comorbidities across the country have already received the vaccine.

Galvez said the general public may get COVID-19 vaccines as early as July if supplies in the country would become “secure and stable" by then.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has reported 892,880 COVID-19 cases with 704,386 recoveries and 15,447 fatalities. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA News
