Man earns P46 from selling scrap, donates it to community pantry

A 56-year-old man showed that poverty is not a hurdle to help.

According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, Romeo Yap earned P46 by selling scrap metals from their house's old roof, which he later donated to a community pantry in Quezon City.

"Isang daang tao magbigay ng halagang P46, malaking tulong dito sa pantry," Yap said.

(If a hundred people donate P46, that will be a big help to the pantry.)

"Naisip ko ang daming nakapila, siguro mas kailangan nila," he added.

(I saw many people in line so I thought they might need this more than me.)

Aside from Yap, Joaquin Hagederon also donated bread at the Maginhawa Community Pantry.

"It's the best feeling when you give what you can," he said.

In Marikina City, a shoe store owner decided to give away footwear instead of grocery items and hygiene kits.

The community pantry that started in Maginhawa Street has been replicated in many areas, and more low-income families have found sources for their daily sustenance.
