COVID-19 reproduction rate in NCR down to 0.67 —OCTA

Metro Manila's COVID-19 reproduction rate in the metropolis dropped to 0.67 from 0.69 days before stricter lockdown ends, independent group OCTA Research said Sunday in its latest report.

With this figure, OCTA Research said Metro Manila will record an average of less than 1,900 new cases by May 14, a day before modified enhanced community quarantine status ends.

Likewise, the report indicated that the current average number of virus infections in National Capital Region is at 2,172 from May 2 to May 8.

"The current daily average is 61% lower compared to the peak of the surge [from] March 29 to April 4," the OCTA Research monitoring report stated.

Earlier, the country registered an upsurge of COVID-19 cases starting late March with new cases ranging from 7,000 to 10,000.

of the severe respiratory illness, bringing the total caseload to  1,094,849.  

Of the total number of infections, total recoveries increased to 1,013,204 while death toll reached 18,269.

Average tests per day

On the other hand, the OCTA Group found that the positivity rate, number of positive tests over the total COVID-19 tests, reached 14% in Metro Manila over the past week.

It said, the average tests conducted daily in the region was at 23,100.

Hospital bed occupancy rate in Metro Manila was down to 50% while ICU utilization rate declined to 67%.

Also, Navotas had the lowest average daily attack rate with 6.74. This means it has the lowest number of COVID-19 per population in Metro Manila.

The city was followed by Malabon with 10.46; Manila with 11.11; Caloocan with 11.37, and Pasay with 12.30. —LBG, GMA News
