Caloocan mayor orders closure of resort for violating health protocols

Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan on Sunday ordered the closure of a resort that was found operating despite the community quarantine implemented in the locality.

In a statement released on his official Facebook page, Malapitan said the local government will file charges against the Gubat sa Ciudad resort, which was caught on video hosting several people celebrating Mother's Day.

"Buong pwersa ng batas ang ipapataw sa mga may-ari at operator ng resort kasama na ang mga nag-swimming at ang mga pinuno ng barangay na tila nagpabaya sa kanilang tungkulin," he said in the statement.

(The full force of the law will be used on the owner and operator of the resort, along with those that swam and barangay officials who were seemingly remiss in their duties.)

In video footage, several individuals -- including children who are not allowed outside under the current community quarantine -- were seen swimming in the pools of the resort.

The video was shown in a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, courtesy of the Philippine Star.

The same report indicated that Malapitan himself checked the resort at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and ordered the revocation of its business permit.

Caloocan is included in the NCR Plus Bubble, which is still under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until May 14. Resorts are not allowed to operate under such restrictions.

Malapitan also ordered contact tracing and close monitoring, as well as RT-PCR testing of all those who were in the resort on Sunday. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
