QC launches voluntary bike registration program

The Quezon City Government launched a voluntary bike registration program to prevent bicycles from being stolen, according to Vonne Aquino’s Saturday report on “24 Oras Weekend.”

“’Pag pininturahan kasi iba na ‘yun, di ba? Ngayon kung meron kang digitized o metal stamper tapos may sticker pa, eh, madali natin ma-identify kahit sirain nu’ng mga magnanakaw,” Elmo San Diago, QC Department of Public Order and Safety head, said.

(So if you paint a stolen bike you can change its appearance, right? Now, if you have a digitized or metal stamper and a sticker, we can easily identify it even if the thief will destroy the bike.)

Those interested may go to the DPOS office at the Quezon City Hall to submit requirements and pay a P150 registration fee.

The service is exclusive to Quezon City residents.

However, some cyclists said that they were not going to register for now due to the registration payment.

“Actually nasa may-ari na ‘yan, eh. Nasa pagiiingat na ng may-ari ‘yan. Kasi ang problema diyan, paano ‘yung walang pang-register,” Dek Jimenez said.

(It’s up to the owner. It's up to the owner to be careful. The problem here is what if the person has no money to register.)

“Hindi naman po garantisado na ganoon, eh. Kasi ‘yung ibang mga bikers, diba ninanakaw ‘yung bike nila tapos kakalasin ‘yung mga parts. Kung libre naman, okay lang naman,” Randy Deocareza, meanwhile, said.

(It’s not guaranteed. The bikes of some cyclists get taken apart. If it’s for free then it’s okay.)

The registration will start next week. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
