Traffic violator arrested for assaulting officer in Manila

A motorist assaulted and hurled expletives at a traffic law enforcer after she was apprehended for violating traffic signal rules in Malate, Manila on Thursday.

Based on Cedric Castillo's "24 Oras" report, the traffic enforcer tried flagging down the woman's car but she sped away. This prompted authorities to give chase, and issue a citation ticket.

When the traffic enforcer asked for her driver's license, the woman said she did not have any so she presented her car's official Receipt/certificate of registration instead. The OR/CR are documents issued by the Land Transportation Office.

The traffic enforcer took a photo of the document and held on to it as part of their "standard operating procedure."

The frustrated driver then slapped the traffic personnel, demanding the document back.

"Pinicturan mo na 'di ba? Akin na 'yan. (You already took a picture of it right? Let me have it.)," she said shouting as she tried reaching for the OR/CR, which the officer refused to hand back.

She went inside her car but she kept pulling the clothes of the traffic law enforcer.

At one point, she also cursed him: "Akin na 'yan ibigay mo sa akin yan. Pinicturan mo na, g*** ka ba? T***** mo ah!" (Give me that. You already took a photo of it.)

"It's an SOP ma'am," the traffic enforcer responded to the angry driver.

Complaints are being filed against the driver, who has yet to air her side of the story.

According to the Manila Public Information Office, she will face complaints of direct assault and driving without license. She is also detained at the Manila Police District, Special Mayor's Reaction Team. -MDM, GMA News
