Some Manila residents spend night at COVID-19 vaccination area

Residents flocked to a COVID-19 vaccination area in Manila on Tuesday before dawn, sleeping on chairs or sleeping bags, as they waited for their turn to get vaccinated.

The queue was reported as early as 3:05 a.m., according to a tweet by Jhomer Apresto of Super Radyo dzBB.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte called on the public to have themselves vaccinated

or else they will be incarcerated.

“Don’t get me wrong, there is a crisis being faced in this country, there is a national emergency. Kung ayaw mong magpabakuna ipaaresto kita, at ang bakuna itusok ko sa puwet mo,” he said in his weekly Talk to the Nation.

Manila previously had a "first come, first served" policy at COVID-19 vaccination centers, but scrapped this beginning Monday, June 21.

This was after tension arose last weekend between vaccinees in line and residents who allegedly skipped the queue. Physical distancing was also not observed in some vaccination sites.

However, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday announced they were re-allowing walk-ins at vaccination sites after only a few vaccinees went to get their jabs that day. —BAP/KG, GMA News
