Delta variant case from Taguig ‘never set foot’ in city while infected, says LGU

Local authorities in Taguig assured the public on Monday that the “single and isolated” Delta variant case recorded there was “never able to set foot” in the city while he was infected with the highly contagious variant.

In a statement, the Taguig government said the city’s Delta variant case is a returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

“[He] was detected as early as May while the OFW was undergoing the required quarantine upon his arrival in the country,” the local government said.

“The patient was not released from quarantine until he recovered, and was never able to set foot in Taguig when he was still infected with the virus,” it added.

Clarence Santos, head of the Taguig Safe City Task Force, earlier announced that authorities detected a Delta variant case from their locality.

The Department of Health later clarified that the case was not a local infection but simply an OFW who has a permanent residence in Taguig.

"We continue to remain vigilant and implement the Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, Reintegrate strategy against all COVID-19 variants to ensure the continued protection of Taguigeños," Taguig Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance head Dr. Jun Sy said.

Taguig has logged 423 active COVID-19 cases as of July 17.—AOL, GMA News
