How Pasig achieved 100% first dose vaccination for seniors

Pasig City has managed to give the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 100% of its senior citizens, making it the first local government unit to vaccinate all eligible seniors.

In Ian Cruz's "24 Oras" report, City Mayor Vico Sotto told reporters that they  intensified information dissemination and house-to-house registration of older adults.

"Word of mouth talaga. Tapos pinuntahan namin. Naghouse-to-house registration," Sotto said at the sidelines of the ceremonial vaccination in Pasig Sports Center.

(We are doing word of mouth and we go to their areas. We did house-to-house registration.)

"Lalo na sa lugar na mahina ang internet connection," he further pointed out.

(Especially in areas where there is slow internet connection.)

Based on his earlier Facebook post, Sotto said 44,703 older adults were able to receive the first shot of COVID-19 vaccines. Of this number, 84% were already fully inoculated versus the severe respiratory illness.

Meanwhile, only 32% of the elderly population nationwide were fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Last month, the Department of Health said allowing fully vaccinated senior citizens to go out may help increase vaccine confidence among their population. It reported that elderly population remained low in the country's vaccination rate.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
