Second alarm raised at Marikina River


The water level at the Marikina River reached 16 meters before dawn on Saturday, prompting authorities to raise the second alarm.

According to a post on the Facebook page of the Marikina Public Information Office, the water level at the river reached 16.2 meters at 4 a.m. on Saturday.

At 8 a.m., the water level increased to 16.3 meters, according to Marikina Rescue 161.

All eight gates of the Manggahan Floodway have been opened.

At 10 a.m., the water level at Marikina River inched up to 16.4 meters.

The rainfall level in three areas in Marikina — Youth Camp; Green St. Concepcion Dos; and Sampaguita St. Bayan Bayanan Creek — remained at 0 millimeter as of 8 a.m.

Marikina authorities said they started on Friday night a preemptive evacuation of residents who would be affected by floods due to the rising water level amid the continuous rains.

 

The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTR-NCR) said 40 families, including 210 adults and 160 children in six barangays in Marikina City have been rescued and assisted as they were brought to their designated evacuation sites in the city.

PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to bring rains over Metro Manila and other parts of the country on Saturday. —With a report from Hana Bordey/NB/BAP/KG, GMA News
